This portfolio started with inspiration that I drew from a self-portrait assignment. Originally, I drew my inspiration for the self-portrait from Cindy Sherman’s black and white photography. Black and white photographs spoke more to the message I wanted to convey to this portfolio’s audience.
I wanted to create silhouetted images of individuals that I knew, but throw in a piece of them or their personalities. For instance, the first image of this portfolio is of myself and my cat Cesar, whom I’ve raised and taken care of since she was a kitten and she is very dear to me. For others, I brought in hints of their hobbies, interests, and quirks to show their personality through objects, like a painter, a chef, a photographer. It was my goal to draw your attention away from their facial features and prevent you from making an assumption about them, and show you in an abstract way what has meaning to them.
